🥁 Marching into March 🥁

Hang in there, winter is almost over! At least officially. Lisbon has been equally wet and sunny: last week, we were rewarded with a magical rainbow show right outside our window!

Voilà Wellness is officially in business! I’ve already met several talented wellness practitioners, and initiated interesting conversations with companies.
The feedback has been very positive so far. It’s a project that will take time to develop but I’m confident about its potential and the need for it.

To support this new venture, please follow along on Instagram and LinkedIn, it helps more than you think!

And to celebrate this launch, I’ve put together a Wellness Guide of my new city, with some of my favorite healthy places in town. Check it out and let me know if you try anything!

THE WORDS OF YOGA

Asana

Asana originally means “steady, comfortable seat” in Sanskrit. It has become a common term used for “poses” or “postures” of Yoga. Asana is what we practice the most in the West, even though it is only one of the eight limbs of Yoga as described by Patanjali.

Most poses’ names in Sanskrit end wtih “-asana”, as in “Savasana”, or “Tadasana” (Mountain pose). Asanas aim to transform the physical body to make it strong and supple, so we can then sit in meditation for an extended period of time without enduring physical discomfort.

What is your favorite Asana? And why?

Even if postures are only a part of Yoga, we can use them as objects of reflection. While in a pose, notice the thoughts that come to mind (I love this pose, I hate this pose, I’m scared of this pose, etc.). Observing the thought patterns towards our attachment to certain poses can tell us a lot about our mindset.

A FEW THINGS I ENJOYED LATELY

My favorite part from Untamed, by Glennon Doyle, was Chapter 18, about our shared human experience. I will be sharing some of these in class this month:

“We feel ecstatic and then numb. We wish our parents had done better by us and we wish we could do better by our children. We betray and we are betrayed. We lie and we are lied to. We say goodbye to animals, to places, to people we cannot live without. We are so afraid of dying. Also of living (...)

We are sweaty, bloated, gassy, oily. We love our children, we long for children, we do not want children. We are at war with our bodies, our minds, our souls, we are at war with one another. We wish we'd said all these things while they were still here, they're still here and we're still not saying those things, we know we won't. (...)

We want to be forgiven, we cannot forgive, we don't understand God, we believe, we absolutely do not believe, we are lonely, we want to be left alone, we want to belong, we want to be loved. We want to be loved. We want to be loved. “ (…)

If you are uncomfortable, in deep pain, angry, yearning, confused, you don't have a problem, you have a life. Being human is not hard because you're doing it wrong, it's hard because you're doing it right. You will never change the fact that being human is hard, so you must change your idea that it was ever supposed to be easy.”
